The PGA Championship is held at Ocean Course in Kiawah.

The Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah Island

I traveled with my husband to the luxury seaside resort The Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah Island, SC.  I was impressed when we rode up the extended road lined with palm and pine trees to The Sanctuary.

When we approached the luxury hotel, massive cream columns, shuttered windows, and black wrought iron railings made us feel like we had arrived at a plantation. Also, we felt the southern hospitality when smiling doormen welcomed us.

I loved the jasmine, butterfly bushes, and petunias that lined the pathways throughout The Sanctuary grounds because their sweet fragrance scented the breeze.

The Sanctuary Hotel’s atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. We visited in late April, but I heard that the pace picks up in the sweltering summer months, when families arrive for summer vacation.

Also, The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island will host the 2021 PGA Championship in August. Can you imagine the celebrities that will attend? My husband played golf on The Ocean Course, and it will be interesting to hear his perspective while we watch the PGA.

During our visit, we rode bikes on the beach. It was a bright day, and we could see for miles, and a slight breeze cooled us. The best part was enjoying the scenery without dodging people and cars.

Kiawah Island has two tennis clubs, and had rated Kiawah as the #1 Best Tennis Resort in the World with the #1 Best Tennis Instruction.

I  took a tennis lesson, and I learned more from one instructor than from previous experiences, because the pro taught using visual images.

The only downside for me was the alligators. I saw signs warning about dangerous alligators. When I saw some, I was watchful!

The resort staff provided excellent service from the bellmen to the waiters. Various employees asked about our stay, and of course, we responded that we had a wonderful time.

Have you ever been to Kiawah or Charleston? How was your experience?
